Fairytale ending for Amelia’s Jewel
A chapter in the story of Amelia Park came to a close on Thursday night with the sale of star mare Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni / Bumbasina) to Coolmore Australia for $3.8 million at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale.
The final lot to be offered on the night, Amelia’s Jewel was part of a star-studded offering of superbly performed mares to pass through the ring.
Amelia’s Jewel made her presence felt when bursting onto the scene with a clean sweep of the WA 2YO features, winning the Supremacy Stakes (LR), Gimcrack (G3) and Karrakatta (G2) at her first three starts for trainer Simon Miller. She returned in the spring of the same year to win the Belgravia (LR), run second in the Burgess Queen (LR) and win the WA Guineas (GR) and Northerly Stakes (G1).
Following a win in the Roma Cup (G3) and a fast finishing 2nd in The Quokka, narrowly missing out to superstar sprinter Overpass, she headed east for her first campaign where she won the Let’s Elope (G2) and the Stocks Stakes (G2) defeating Pride of Jenni and smashing the track record.
With a tilt at more east coast victories in mind, she was transferred to the stables of Annabel & Rob Archibald where she narrowly missed to Atishu in the Gr1. Kind Charles at Randwick. Her final win came in the Gr2. Guy Walter Stakes at Randwick in March of this year.
Following her sale on Thursday night, Coolmore principal Tom Magnier confirmed that Amelia’s Jewel will be needing her passport and is set to head to their base in Kentucky where she will be sent to Triple Crown champion Justify.
Closer to home, her dam Bumbasina is in foal to champion sire Zoustar, with a full sister currently waiting in the wings. The team look forward to their continued involvement racing her younger half brother Bosustow (Blue Point) with Rosemont Stud and a syndicate of owners, as well as her full brother who sold for $625,000 to Perth trainer Luke Fernie at the Gold Coast earlier this year.
