Capitola back to his best
Capitola returned to his best form when he notched up his second victory from six starts in the PKF Perth Plate (1100m) at Ascot on Saturday.
The gelding by Capitalist won the Initial Plate (1000m) on debut at Ascot in October, but struggled to make an impression during his next campaign. “Captiola was nearly knocked over in the Perth Stakes and he didn’t pull up very well so we had to miss the Karrakatta Plate” trainer Luke Fernie said post-race. Fernie and his team decided to push on with the gelding and his professional nature meant they were able to work through those hiccups.
“I thought he could win today and it was a good result”.
Capitola was sold at the 2024 Perth Yearling Sales to Fernie for $110,000 and Amelia Park happily retained a share in the gelding.
His dam Rio Del Mar, a winner of the G3 Gimcrack Stakes in a career of only five starts, returned back to Capitalist following the win of Capitola in October. Her current foal is by Playing God.
