Following her fifth place effort in the Gr.1 Queen of the Turf on Saturday, Peter and Annie Walsh and the team at Amelia Park have announced the retirement of their star mare, Amelia’s Jewel.

Amelia’s Jewel amassed 10 wins from her 24 start career, all at stakes level. The daughter of Siyouni, who never raced below stakes grade, won nine of her first 11 starts in WA for trainer Simon Miller.

Her WA career culminated in winning the Gr.1 Northerly as a three-year-old, before barely missing out to Overpass in the inaugural Quokka. She then went on to take Victorian racing by storm, winning the Gr.2 Let’s Elope Stakes and the Gr.2 Stocks Stakes, beating Pride of Jenni and Deny Knowledge in the trifecta.

Once transferred to the care of Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald, she notched her fifth Gr.2 win in this year’s Apollo Stakes, and was just inches from further Gr.1 glory the spring prior, when narrowly missing to Atishu in a thrilling Empire Rose finish.

She is the first foal out of the stakes-placed winner Bumbasina and was an instant hit, boasting an unbeaten juvenile record of three stakes wins from three starts, culminating in the Gr.2 Karrakatta Plate. Her half-brother Bosustow (Blue Point) tasted victory in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas at the Gold Coast earlier this year, having also run a second and third at Gr.1 level.

Amelia’s Jewel will be offered at the Inglis Chariman’s Sale on May 8, and offers an outstanding opportunity to purchase an exceptional race and breeding mare.
